JERRY HAAG

Jerry Haag (1966- ) was raised in Texas and served on the faculty of Fort Hays State University and Sanford University. He is an ordained Baptist minister and served as administrative pastor of Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham. Haag graduated form Baylor University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business. He earned a Ph. D. degree from the University of Texas. Haag led South Texas Children’s Home (2000-2007) until he became the president of the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes in 2007. He and his wife, Christi, have two sons, Ben and Brody.

CLARENCE E. HACKETT, III

Clarence E. Hackett, III (1945-   ) was born in Salem, NJ. He graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Campbellsville College. Hackett has served as pastor of churches in Kentucky, Ohio and Florida, including Eastside Baptist Church, Punta Gorda. In 1984, He became director of the Stewardship Department, Florida Baptist Convention. Hackett and his wife Barbara Jo have two children.

PEGGY OTT HACKLER

Peggy Ott Hackler (1927-2018) was born in Roanoke, VA. She graduated from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1961, she moved permanently to Jacksonville, FL for a career in Baptist denominational work, serving as area director of Baptist Student work in Jacksonville for the Florida Baptist Convention. After her retirement, she stayed active in broadcasting, writing, volunteering and most importantly, in her church.

JAMES W. HACKNEY

James W. Hackney (1924-2014) was born in Eldon, Missouri. He served in the United States Army in World War II. Hackney graduated from Union
University in Jackson, Tennessee and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (M Div). He served extensively in Missouri in denominational service. Hackney served as pastor in Louisiana, Missouri, Tennessee and First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze, Florida. He and his wife worked with the Florida Baptist Convention in Partnership Missions ministries. He and his wife Marjorie Gable had three children: Carol, David and Doug.

WESLEY CHARLES HAEFNER

Wesley Charles Haefner (1921-1984) died in an automobile accident in Gatlinburg, Tennessee while serving as pastor of First Baptist Church of Bristol, Florida (1966-1984). Prior to his service at Bristol, Haefner served as pastor of Land O Lakes from 1958 to 1966. He and his wife, Kathlyn, had two daughters, Linda and Diana.

JOE HAIGLER

Joe Haigler (1922-2011) was born in Mobile, Alabama to Joe G. And Evelyn Weaver Haigler. Haigler graduated from Mississippi College. He served as pastor of East Brent Baptist Church, Pensacola for 21 years and First Baptist Church, Niceville for 16 years. Haigler’s first wife Hazel preceded him and death and he married Sibyl Caldwell Haigler. Haigler had one son, David.

LEWIS HAINES

Haines,-Lewis

Lewis Haines (1909-1989) moved to Florida in 1917. He graduated from the University of Florida. He was licensed and ordained by College Park Baptist
Church in Orlando. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Apopka, First Baptist Church, Eustis, and First Baptist Church in Starke (1944-1960). Following retirement he started a church in his home which became First Baptist Church in Sanlando Springs. He served as their pastor until 1970. He and his wife, Ruth, had two daughters, Helen and Mary, and two sons, Lewis II and Tom.

GORDON H. HALBERT

Gordon H. Halbert (1917-1960) was the son of Hardy Bostick and Fannie Ethel Moon Halbert. He graduated from Stetson University and attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Halbert served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Bowling Green, Wellswood Baptist Chapel and Mission Hills Baptist Chapel. He and his wife, Dannie B. Halbert had two children.

LEWIS HALBERT

Lewis Halbert (1924-2006) was a graduate of Stetson University, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Florida State University. Halbert served in the United States Army. Halbert pastored churches in Louisiana and Florida for 19 years. He later received his Masters of Sociology from Florida State University and his Certificate of Criminology from FAMU. Later, after leaving the pastorate due to health problems, he began his career in the Florida Department of Corrections. He served as an Academic Consultant Appalachee Correctional Institute for 19 years and was the representative for the State of Florida Division of Corrections, presenting workshops at the International Corrections Association in Houston, TX, Philadelphia, PA and Atlanta, GA, He taught Criminology classes at Chipola College and did guest lectures at Troy University. He and his wife of 58 years Willie Blossom had two daughters; Rachel and Marti; and two sons, Roland and Al.

JOHN HALDEMAN

John Haldeman (1915-1990) served as pastor of Allapattah Baptist Church in Miami for 20 years (1945-1965). When he retired the church had 3,200
members, and the largest Sunday School in the state with an average attendance of 2,000. Halderman served as chairman of the Southern Baptist
Convention Executive Committee, and was chairman of the first Cuban refugee committee established in 1960. Halderman was a native of Texas and a graduate of Centenary and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Stetson University. He donated 230 rare Bibles to The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Jerry Haley graduated from Samford University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Okaloosa County, and Valley Road Baptist Church, Oakdale. Haley and his wife Joyce had three children.

Andrea J. Hall (1957) was born in Ypsilanti, MI. She graduated from Oakland University and the Psychological Studies Institute, Atlanta. Hall served as associate director, Women’s Mission and Ministries Department of the Florida Baptist Convention. She and her husband Kenneth B. Hall have three children.

ANDREW M. HALL

Andrew M. Hall graduated from Ouachita Baptist University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has pastored churches in Kentucky, Arkansas and Florida, including First Baptist Church, Delray Beach and First Baptist Church, Lake Wales. Hall served with the Foreign Mission Board (1973-1981) and on the Southern Baptist Radio and Television Commission (1960-1968). Hall and his wife have one daughter and one son.

Bennett F. Hall (1914-2005) was the son of Charles M. and Mary Lyon Hall. He was ordained in 1936 by First Baptist Church, Eustis. Hall graduated from Stetson University, DeLand and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kentucky and Princeton Theological Seminary. He pastored churches in Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky and Florida. Hall served as pastor of Lucerne Park Baptist Church, Orlando, First Baptist Church, Titusville, 1944-1950, Bay Haven Baptist Church, Sarasota, First Baptist Church, Sorrento, and Southside Baptist Church, Bradenton. He and his wife Mae Elizabeth had three daughters and one son. Hall had a twin brother, Fayette L. Hall who was also a Baptist minister in Florida

Clyde Hall was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Hall. He graduated from Stetson University, Deland. Hall served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Chiefland, First Baptist Church, Barberville, Northside Baptist Church, Ruskin and West Hillsborough Baptist Church, Tampa. He served as associational missionary for the Seminole Baptist Association.

Elvin Hall (1929-   ) was born in Plant City, Florida, the son of Olin and Thelma Hall. He graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange College, Missouri, East Texas Baptist College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of Gapway Baptist Church, Lakeland,  First Baptist Church, Pine Castle and Lebanon Baptist Church. Hall and his wife Lucille have two daughters.

FAYETTE L. HALL, SR.

Fayette L. Hall, Sr. (1914-1995) was the son of Charles McDonald and Mary E. Hall. He graduated from Stetson University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Hall served as pastor of Miller Memorial Baptist Church, Orlando, First Baptist Church, Fort Pierce, First Baptist Church, Conway, Orlando, and College Park Baptist Church, Orlando. He was married to Edna Moon and they had three sons and one daughter. Hall had a twin brother, Bennett F. Hall who was also a Baptist minister in Florida.

G. W. HALL

G. W. Hall served as a pastor, state missionary, Sunday School worker and children’s work organizer in North and Central Florida in the late 1800s. He wrote a very popular column for the Florida Baptist Witness under the pen name Uncle Hall. The personal notes that Uncle Hall wrote to the children in the state paper gave spiritual advice, personal encouragement, and promotional help to all his spiritual nieces and nephews. He was pastor of the Providence Church in Gadsden County, Florida from 1873-1875, Warahoota Church in Warahoota in 1877 and Paran Baptist Church, Palatka, 1882-1883.

J. F. HALL

J. F. Hall was a native of Florida. He served as pastor of Northside Baptist Church, Ponce de Leon, Norwood Baptist Church, Jacksonville, and First Baptist Church, Cottondale.

J. M. HALL

J. M. Hall (1849-1933) served in North Florida. He was pastor in the Blountstown area, and was a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church for many years. Hall was known for his preaching emphasis on tithing and giving. He was survived by his wife, nine children, and twenty-one grandchildren.

John B. Hall (1922-1979) was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky. He graduated from the University of Kentucky, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Stetson University, DeLand. Hall served as pastor of Springhead Baptist Church, Plant City, Lake Shipp Baptist Church, Winter Haven, First Baptist Church, Cresent City, and the First Baptist Church of Crestview and First Baptist Church, Crescent City. He and his wife Eleanor have two daughters.

JOHN GLENN HALL

John Glenn Hall (1934-2006) was born in Wauchula, Florida, the son of Rev. Roscoe and Madge Proctor Hall. He was ordained in 1968 by the First Baptist Church, Sopchoppy (now Sopchoppy Southern) Hall taught school for 27 years and served as pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Grand Ridge for 34 years. He and his wife, Ann Booth Hall had two children.

LaDON HALL

LaDon Hall (1938-) celebrated his seventh anniversary as pastor of Cora Church, Jay, in 1980. Remarkably the church gave more to missions in 1980 than the total amount of the church budget. The church budget was $47,030 and $52,830 was given to missions. Hall was born in Cottonwood, Alabama. He was called to preach in 1960 and served as pastor in Alabama and Florida including Walnut Hill Baptist Church, Escambia County and Wallace Baptist Church, Pace. Hall graduated from Baptist Bible Institute (1967) and Mobile College (1971). He and his wife Nadine had three daughters, Pattie, Tami and Wanda.

M. JACK HALL

M. Jack Hall was honored in 1980 for serving 30 years as pastor of Russell Church in Green Cove Springs. For 25 years (1950-1974) Hall was called annually by the church.

OTTOWAY G. HALL

Ottoway G. Hall died at age 83 after serving as pastor in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. He served as association missionary in Alabama and Florida. He also served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Sopchoppy, Florida.

ROSCOE M. HALL SR.

Hall,-Roscoe

Roscoe M. Hall, Sr. (January 2, 1899- 2001) was born in Grand Ridge, Florida. His great-grandfather was a Baptist minister as was his grandfather, father, two brothers, two sons, a son-in-law, and two grandsons-in-law. Hall attended a one room school house in North Florida, and then went to preparatory school at Norman Park, Georgia. Hall then went to school at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Hall preached his first sermon at age 21, and served as a bi-vocational preacher for nearly 80 years. Hall served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Port St. Joe,  Webster Avenue Baptist Church, Lakeland, Pine Grove Baptist Church, Trenton, First Baptist Church, Woodville, and First Baptist Church, Magnolia. He taught school in Calhoun, Polk, and Madison counties, Florida. Hall was married to Madge Proctor Hall for 64 years, and she died in 1989, they had five children. Hall turned 100 years old on January 2, 1999, and preached the next day at Gateway Baptist Church in Blountstown, Florida, a church he organized . Roscoe Hall Appreciation Day was celebrated at the Blountstown Civic Center with over 300 people in attendance. He died in 2001 at the age of 101.

R. F. Hallford served as pastor of South Bay Baptist Church, Crystal Lake Baptist Church, Lakeland, and Northside Baptist Church, DeLand. When he was pastor of First Baptist Church, Port St. Joe (1941-1944) for three years when he announced he had preached 475 sermons, led in 14 revivals, baptized 135 people, married seven couples, led 150 prayer meetings, taught a Bible class each week, wrote 11 tracts, four pamphlets, two books, and one booklet in his first three years at the church.

DAVID B. HALSTEAD, JR.

David Halstead

David B. Halstead, Jr. (May 3, 1925-April 15, 2009) was born in Geneva County, Alabama. He retired as a construction superintendent from H. G.
Harders & Son Construction after 34 years. He went into the ministry in 1957 as a bi-vocational minister after his retirement and later became a full
time minister. He served as the pastor of Pine Ridge Baptist Church, Midway Baptist Church, West Bay Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Fountain
(1980-1993). He also served as chaplain for Bay Medical Center, Gulf Coast Hospital and the Bay County Sheriff’s Department. He served in the United
States Army attached to the United States Marines during WWII in the South Pacific. He and his wife, Lillian, had four sons, Dennis, Danny, Billy and Timothy; and four daughters, Patricia, Gail, Rosemary, and Sue.

WILLIAM LEWIS HAMBRICK

William Lewis Hambrick (1880-1973) was born in Stone Mt., Georgia, the son of Mr. And Mrs. C. C. Hambrick. He graduated from Southern Seminary, and Atlanta Theological Seminary. Hambrick served as a Baptist preacher for 60 years, and lived in Jacksonville, Florida, for 30 years. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Brandon (1935-1937), College Park in Orlando (1940-1944), Hart Haven, and Ortega in Jacksonville. He and his wife, Lena, had one son, Ernest, and two daughters, Sarah and Edyth.

C. WESLEY HAMIL

C. Wesley Hamil (1934-2000) served as pastor of Buckhead Ridge Baptist Church, 1968; and for 32 years as the bi-vocational pastor of the Eastside Baptist Church in LaBelle. He had retired as an educator after 30 years of teaching and administration in the local school district. He and his wife, Juanita, had two sons, Wes and Jon.

RUDOLPH CARROL HAMMACK

Hammack,-R.

Rudolph Carrol Hammack (June 19, 1943- ) was born in Winnfield, Louisiana, the son of T. C. and Lessie Cox Hammack. He was raised in Ball, Louisiana from 1943 to 1965. Hammack was converted in 1949, and became a member of Wayside Church in Pollock, Louisiana, on April 29, 1964. He was ordained at the Wayside Church. Hammack received the B.A. in 1966 from Louisiana College, the M.A. in 1970 from Northwestern State University, his Ph.D. in 1973 from Tulane University and an M.A. in 1990 from Florida State University. Hammack served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Monterey, Louisiana from 1964 to 1965, Walnut Grove, Colfax, Louisiana from 1965 to 1970, Blood River in Albany, Louisiana from 1970 to 1974, and Alpine First Baptist of Pineville, Louisiana 1974 to 1978. Hammack served at the Baptist College of Florida from 1978 to 2014 on the faculty and in the administration. He has served in over 25 interims in the tri-state area. He and his wife, Barbara, have two children; Stephanie born in 1962, and Shawn born in 1967.

James W. Hammock (1951-2008) graduated from Stetson University, DeLand and Southern Seminary, Louisville. He served as a pastor, businessman and community leader in the Seminole County area for over 30 years. Hammock served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Longwood and was the founding pastor of Campass Community Church, Apopka. He and his wife Deri Oakley Hammock had four children.

W. T. Hammond was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Hammond. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Hammond served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Oak Hill, 1959-1963. He and his wife had two children.

JOEL LOCKHART HAMPTON

Joel Lockhart Hampton (1865-1957) was born in Brooksville, Florida. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Hampton. Hampton was baptized at First Baptist Church in Tampa, in 1899. He was ordained as a minister on December 14, 1908 at Palm Avenue Baptist Church in Tampa. He served churches in Homeland,  and El Bethal in Tampa; Wildwood, and Eden near Brooksville. He was the first pastor of Valrico (now First Baptist Church) Brandon. In 1921 he organized the Seminole Heights Baptist Church, Tampa. He later served as pastor in Nocatee. He married Ruby Dasher from Tampa. They had one child, Mrs. Anna Mae McLeod from Tampa.

JAMES R. HAMRICK

Hamrick,-James-R.

James R. Hamrick (1930-2001) was a native of Tampa, and a graduate of Florida State and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Jacksonville from 1972 to 1985. He also had been pastor of Inglis Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in New Port Richey, West Broad Baptist Church in Tampa, and Dundee Baptist Church in Taxton. At the time of his sudden death, he was director of missions of the Northeast Florida Baptist Association. He and his wife, Suzanne, had a daughter, Joy, and a son, Stephen.

CHARLES C. HANCOCK

Charles C. Hancock served as a bi-vocational Baptist preacher in Florida for 33 years. He was a citrus grower by trade and a Baptist preacher by calling. He was ordained in 1912 by the Kathleen Baptist Church. He served as pastor at Big Lake, Mount Olive, Medulla, Auburndale, Gapway, Center Hill, Emmaus, and Bethel Baptist churches. He died June 19, 1958. He was known as Uncle Charlie.

Stan Hannan is a native of Zambia. He graduated from Baptist Theological College and Semianry of Southern Africa and served as a chaplain in the
British/South African Army. Hannan served as a pastor in Africa before coming to the United States in 1985. Hannan, his wife Norma, and three
daughters immigrated to the United States in 1985 and became citizens in 1990. He had served as president of the Baptist churches of Central Africa
while pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Zimbabwe. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Eustis and Lockhart Baptist Church in Orlando in
2004 before becoming a pastor of First Baptist Church, Indialantic in 2007. He and his wife Norma, have three daughters.

THOMAS HANSEN

Thomas Hansen (March 4, 1897-June 22, 1964) was born in Aabanraa, Schlesvig, Holstein, Denmark. His parents were in farming. Hansen graduated from Des Moines University Academy (1917) and the Danish Theological Seminary of Des Moines University (1920). He was awarded a D.D. degree by Stetson University in 1935. Hansen married Edna Grace Petersen on June 27, 1923, and they had two children, Keith (professor at Stetson) and Kenneth (pastor of Main Street Baptist Church in Jacksonville). Hansen was ordained by First Baptist Church of Elk Horn, Iowa, in July, 1920. Hansen served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Newberry, Florida (1920-1925), First Baptist Church in Starke, Florida (1925-1926), Main Street Baptist Church in Jacksonville (1929-1950), and First Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale (1928-1929, 1951-1962). He baptized more than 4,000 persons in his four Florida pastorates. Hansen served as president of the Florida Baptist Convention (1945-1946), trustee of Stetson University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Hansen was a soul winner, and saw 4,400 converts come to Christ in his 41 years as pastor. He organized and helped build Lake Forest Baptist Church, Jacksonville (1946), Wilton Manors (1955), Southwest (1956), Lauderdale Manors (1957), and the Parkway Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale. Hansen served as president of the Florida Baptist State Convention in 1945 and 1946.

Brian Harbour received his B.A. (1966) and Ph.D. (1973) degrees from Baylor University. He served as pastor in Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, and Arkansas in his pastoral work. Barbour married Jan Sportsman of Kansas City, and they have four children. He is a native of Weslaco, Texas, and was known in the pastorate for his sermon planning and preparation. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Pensacola, from 1978 to 1985. In October, 1985, Harbour left Pensacola to become pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Kenneth Earnest Hardee (1946-   ) was born in Lake Wales, Florida, the son of Willie Harrison and Annie Mable Hardwick Hardee. He served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Orlando; Faith Baptist Church, Macclenny; Lake Region Baptist Church, Winter Haven; and Richland Baptist Church, Zephyrhills, 1990-1995). Hardee and his wife Martha Wanda Hardee had two children.

William S. Hardin (1903-1984) celebrated his 50th anniversary in the ministry and his 70th birthday in August 1972. He served as pastor of three churches in those 50 years of ministry. He served Baptist churches in Adairville, Kentucky; Drew, Mississippi; and First Baptist Church in Titusville, Florida. Hardin was a native of Mississippi, and a graduate of Mississippi College and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

W. B. HARE

William Bethea Hare (1853-1913) was a preacher from Alabama but his life’s work was in Florida. In 1879 he came to Florida but then went to The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary determined to move back to Florida after his graduation. He served as pastor of the Baptist Church at Sumterville for two years. Upon severe health problems Hare had to leave the pastoral ministry and entered the field of education and administration. Hare served for two years in the clerk’s office at Sumterville. He served two terms as Superintendent of Education of Sumter County. He served six years as Superintendent of the State Institution for the Deaf and Blind in Saint Augustine. At the time of his death he was Superintendent of Public Education of DeSota County.

Robert ‘Bob’ Harllee (1932-2006) was born in Miami, Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Georgia State University and Old Dominion University. Harllee served as an army chaplain for 20 years. He worked with the Jacksonville Baptist Association in several capacities, including Church Starter and resettlement of Cambodian refugees. Harllee and his wife Joyce had three children.

H. Clyde Harless (1911-1994) was born in Birmingham, Alabama, , the son of G. A. and Julia Perkins Harless. He was a graduate of Howard College and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor in Alabama and Kentucky before moving to Florida. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Graceville, Florida; St. Johns Park Baptist Church, Jacksonville, and N. Main Street Baptist Church, Jacksonville, before going to work with the State Board of Missions in 1954. He served as Director of Missions of Alachua, Lake County, and Marion Associations before he retired in 1976. After retirement he served as interim of ten different churches in Central Florida. He and his wife, Kathleen, were married 58 years. Their son, Jim, served as a Southern Baptist missionary to Colombia.

JIMMIE HARRELL

Jimmie Harrell (February 17, 1942- ) is the son of Leo and Rosetta Harrell. He grew up on a farm near Hawkinsville, Georgia. He was converted at age ten, and moved to Florida with his family at age twelve. Harrell served in the United States Army, and upon completion of his military assignment moved to Miami, Florida. He served as a layman in Glendale Baptist Church, and was called to preach in 1978. He later became pastor of Glendale Baptist Mission of Brownsville in Miami (1981-1996). In 1996 Harrell accepted a position as associate director of English Missions with the Miami Baptist Association. Harrell attended Miami Dade Community College, and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Violet, have three children; Marion, Micah, and Matthew.

RALPH EDWIN HARRELL

Ralph Edwin Harrell (February 11, 1929- ) was born in Arcadia, Florida. He was the son of Willie Ralph Harrell and Willie Mae Richardson Harrell. Harrell was raised in Pahokee (1929-1939) and Winter Garden, Florida (1939-1947). Harrell finished high school at Lakeview High School in Winter Garden, Florida, in 1947. He attended the University of Florida (B.A., 1952), and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas (B.D., 1956). He married Faye Johnston Harrell on June 6, 1950, at Winter Garden, Florida. They had two daughters, Sandra (1953) and Debra (1955). Harrell served as missions director, evangelist, and United States Army chaplain in his career.

Willie Lee Harrell (1891-1984) was born in Alachua County, Florida, the daughter of James Willis. She graduated from Woman’s Missionary Union Training School. Mrs. Harrell served as WMU Field Secretary in Florida 1923-1924 and WMU Young People’s Secretary 1924-1930. She was married to Alfred Jones Harrell.

He and his wife, Ruth Ellen Poole Hart (d. 1989) married in 1952 and they had four children. His second wife Eddie Merle Tye Smith of Donaldsonville, Georgia died in 2002. He married Barbara Lee Horne of Ocala, Florida in 2003.

Charles Harvey (1951-) was elected associate director of the Theological Education and Distance Learning Department of the Florida Baptist State Convention in 2007. Harvey is a native of New Orleans and served in campus ministry in Louisiana (1980-1990) and associate pastor of First Baptist Church, Windermere (1990-1996). Harvey graduated from Northeast Louisiana University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (M. Div., D. Min.). He served as NOBTS vice president for development from 2002-2006.

Ernest Harvey (1931-2013) was born in Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Stetson University, DeLand and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville. Harvey served as the founding pastor of Olga Baptist Church, Fort Myers, 1959-1961. He and his wife Janice Thompson Harvey were appointed missionaries by the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board to serve in Brazil, the Republic of South Africa, Mozambique and Portugal where they served for a total of 22 years. They had two children.

WAYNE O. HARVEY

Wayne O. Harvey (September 10, 1948- ) was born in Tallahassee, Florida. He attended Florida State University (B.S., 1970), Yale Divinity School (M.A., 1974), and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky (M.Div. 1975, D. Min. 1979). Harvey and his wife, Joan, had two children, Scott (1977) and Hank (1980). Harvey served as pastor of Enon Baptist Church, Salem, Indiana (1975-1976), Archer Baptist Church, Archer, Florida (1976-1980), First Church, Indialantic, and Meadow Brook Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama (1990-1992). He served 14 years as director of Missions for the Santa Fe River Association before his retirement in 2014. Harvey served as a summer missionary with the Home Mission Board, chairman of the Florida Baptist Family Ministries Board of Trustees, and in numerous other association and state convention positions. He and his wife Joan have two sons, Hank and Scott.

Carl Haselton (1926-   ) was born in Dothan, Alabama. He graduated from Howard College, Birmingham, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Haselton was ordained 1956 by First Baptist Church, Crestview. He served as pastor of churches in Kentucky, Texas, New York, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Florida, including Woodlawn Baptist Church, Crestview, Holmes Creek Baptist Church, Chipley, and Valley Road Baptist Church, Oakdale. LYNDA WILSON RAMEY HASTY

Lynda Wilson Ramey Hasty (1923-2013) was born Lynda Elizabeth Wilson in Covington, Ga., she was the daughter of Joseph O. Wilson and Beulah Wheeler Wilson. After graduating from high school, she attended junior college at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Rabun Gap, Ga., where she met her first husband, Morris Ramey. They had two children. During WW II she worked for the Vultee Aircraft Corp. building B-24 bombers, first as a riveter and later as an electrician. After Rameys’ early death, she married Allen Hasty of Gainesville. She worked as the educational secretary at First Baptist Church in Gainesville and later for the Baptist Student Center at the University of Florida, where she retired as associate director in 1985 after 22 years of service.

Fred Hatcher (1931-2013) was the son of Charles and Mary Hightower Hatcher. Hatcher served as pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church, Darlington Baptist Church and Union Hill Baptist Church, 1969-1972. He and his wife Mary had five sons and three daughters.

F. C. Hawk (1874-1960)  was born in Watseka, Illinois, and moved to Chipley Florida, when a small boy. He united with First Baptist Church in Chipley at age 15, and worked faithfully in the local Sunday School until his call to preach and ordination in 1911. Hawk served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Laurel Hill (1922-1939), Ebenezer, Laurel Hill and First Baptist Church, Cottondale (1929-1946). He served churches as pastor in Washington and Okaloosa counties for over 40 years.

W. W. Hawk (1908-1993) served as pastor of Oakie Ridge Baptist Church in Chipley for 20 years. He also worked at Nelson Buick in Panama City for 45 years, and was active in the National Forest Campground Ministry. He and his wife, Doris, had two daughters, Janie and June.

BURIA A. HAWKINS

Buria A. Hawkins (1907-1971) served as pastor of several churches in Florida. He served as pastor of Whitfield Memorial Church in Pensacola. He died January 19, 1971, and was buried in Fayette, Alabama. Hawkins and his wife, Mina, had one son, Lt. Col. B. R. Hawkins, of Corpus Christi, Texas.

O. S. Hawkins (c. 1947- ) was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and graduated from Texas Christian University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv, 1974; PhD 2020). He served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale for 15 years (1978-1993). He served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, 1993 – 1997 before he was elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention Annuity Board serving 1997 — 2022. Hawkins was employed as Chancellor and senior professor for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary from 2022 to the present (2024). Hawkins and his wife, Suzie, have two daughters.

JAMES HENRY HAYMAN

James Henry Hayman (December 6, 1829-March 3, 1916) was born in Irwin County, Georgia. Hayman was the son of James Hayman and Delila Martin.
James Henry married Sarah Ann Jackson on February 24, 1848, and they had seven children. The children were Columbus, Thomas, William James,
Adoniram Judson, Mary Elizabeth, Cynthia, and Jerry. Sarah Hayman died February 6, 1861. James lived in Putman County in 1867-1868. James married Martha Hall, daughter of Nathan Cobb Hall on October 17, 1861 and they had five children. After her death, James married her sister, Amanda Hall, in Volusia County on June 7, 1869, and they had seven children. Hayman then married Emeline Biahea Foster as his fourth wife, and they had no children. James served in the Old Guard Mounted Rangers in the Civil War as did his father James. Later James Henry served in the Florida Calvary, Company H, 5th Battalion. In 1880 he was living in Orange County. Hayman was pastor in south central Florida during his ministry. He was related to several churches in the Peace River Association. He served as pastor at Mt. Pleasant, Midway, Union, Dry Prairie and at Bethany Baptist Church of Myakka City from 1909-1910. He also served in the Wekiva Association and was known as a church starter, Sunday School builder, and he had a very fruitful ministry at Mt. Ephriam in Manatee County. James was the brother of Jeremiah M. Hayman, and both of them were ordained Baptist ministers who preached widely. James is buried at Mount Ephriam Church Cemetery in Owens, Florida.

JEREMIAH M. HAYMAN

Hayman,-J.-M.

Jeremiah. M. Hayman (December 22, 1822-July 9, 1902) was born in Bryan County, Georgia about 30 miles west of Savannah. He was the son of James and Delila Martin Hayman, and the older brother of James Henry Hayman. His parents were not pious but the death of their second child caused them to turn to God, and they were converted and united with the Primitive Baptists. The family moved to Madison County, Florida in 1837. J. M. and his father, James, joined Captain M. C. Livingston and his company in the war against the Seminole Indians. In 1839 he joined another volunteer company under Captain William I. Bailey at Magnolia, Florida, and served until discharged. In 1843 James and J. M. selected places near Lake Lindsey in Hernando County under the armed occupation act of 1842. J. M. had little education but spent much time reading his Bible and studying. He was baptized by John Tucker in Lake Lindsey on July 7, 1844. J. M. felt called to preach. On August 27, 1846, he married Martha J. Carlton of Alachua County, and they moved to Hillsborough County. J. M. was ordained November 10, 1851. J. M. was very influential in the early Baptist work. He preached in villages and the woods in DeSoto, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Polk, and Pasco counties. He established churches in Bartow in 1854, Tampa in 1860, and Plant City in 1866. Along with Dr. Joseph S. Baker, they organized First Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida, in July 1860. Hayman served as a pastor for 51 years and his total salary for those years was $2,500.

Jerry Hayner (1938-1994) served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Gainesville from 1973 to 1982. He died suddenly at age 56 while serving as pastor in North Carolina. He and his wife, Karen, had one daughter, Kelli, and one son, Todd. Hayner also served as a trustee of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

They served as missionaries to Japan (1948-1975) for the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board. The Hays’ had three children.

Leo A. Hebert (1925-2008) served as a chaplain in the United States Navy during World War II and served as pastor in Louisiana, Alabama, Maryland, and Florida. Hebert served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Woodville, Forest Heights Baptist Church, Tallahassee. and for 18 years (1975-1993) he served as Director of Missions of the Florida Baptist Association. Herbert and his wife Ruth had sons, Harold, Tim and Bill; and daughter Cheryl. He died September 22, 2008 in Tallahassee.

He served in the Air Force; as a Southern Baptist medical missionary in Bangalore, India (1968-1974) and in his medical practice at Florida Hospital for 50 years retiring in 2005. Hellinger graduated from the University of Florida and Northwestern University Medical School. He and his wife Frances Syfrett “Frankie” Hellinger had six children.

In the 1848 minutes of the Florida Baptist Association, W. Henderson was listed as pastor of Bethel Church in Hamilton County.

Z. G. HENDERSON

Z. G. Henderson served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Pensacola (1858-1860). Henderson went to Pensacola from Tallasee, Alabama. He married Mattie Sterns in December 1859, and they both tragically died of pulmonary consumption within nine months. Henderson was about 30 years of age when he died.

ANDREW ALEXANDER “ALEX” HENDRY

Andrew Alexander Hendry (1904-1968) was born in Sandy, Manatee County, FL to James Madison and Martha Frances Wingate Hendry. Hendry was ordained in 1949 at Orient Baptist Church, Tampa. He served as pastor of Limestone Baptist Church, Dry Prairie Baptist Church, Myakka City Baptist Church, Clewiston Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Pine Level and Bethany Baptist Church, Myakka City from 1949 to 1951 and from 1958 to 1964, Double Branch Baptist Church (now First Baptist Church, Wesley Chapel) 1953. For the last 13 years of his life, he was blind and continued to preach. Hendry married Altha Duncan (1910-1946) in 1925 and they had six children, Mattie Opal DuBose (1916-1994) in 1947 and they had one daughter.

Audrey O. Hendry (1928-) was born in the Oak Grove community near Zolfo Springs. He was ordained to preach at the Jackson Heights Baptist Church, Tampa in 1961. Hendry served as pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, Myakka City, FL. Hendry and his wife Trudy had five daughters.

Calvin Eugene Hendry (1877-1946) was the son of James Madison Hendry and Mary Jane Payne Hendry. He was one of eleven children and his father, two brothers, and a half-brother were Baptist preachers. Hendry served as pastor of First Baptist Church, LaBelle in 1921. He married Mary Ethel Hull on December 30, 1909.

Charles Boardman Hendry (1879-1914) was born in the New Zion Community, Manatee (now Hardee) County, FL. The son of J. M. and Mary Jane Payne Hendry. Hendry was ordained in 1907 by the New Zion Baptist Church and served as pastor of the church in 1908. He and his wife Delia Boyd Hendry had two daughters.

Euliff Lardner Hendry (October 2, 1866-August 14, 1914) was the eldest son of Rev. James Madison Hendry. He was baptized into New Zion church on December 10, 1894, and was ordained August 7, 1910. His pastoral work was cut short by failing health but he served as pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in the South Florida Association and Bethany Baptist Church (1910-1913) in Myakka City.

JAMES MADISON HENDRY

J. M. Hendry (July 23, 1839-April 14, 1922) was born at Snatchville, in Lowndes County, Georgia. He was the son of Robert and Zilla Ann Moody Hendry and the family moved to Jasper, Florida, where they were recorded in the 1850 census. Hendry was a veteran of the Third Seminole War, the Civil War, a cowhunter, politician, merchant, postmaster, farmer, and Baptist preacher. He married Mary Jane Payne of Laurens County, Georgia, on December 22, 1851. Hendry and Mary Jane were baptized by J. M. Hayman at Maple Branch, north of Fort Green on February 17, 1867. He was later ordained as a minister at Pine Pleasant Church in Hillsborough County in Novermber 1870. In 1875 Hendry served as pastor of New Hope and helped organize the Manatee Missionary Baptist Association in 1876. He also served as pastor at Dry Prairie of Duette, Bethany of Myakka City, Sandy, New Zion and Crewsville. Mary Jane died on May 3, 1899 and Hendry married Martha Frances Wingate. Hendry and Mary Jane had eleven children and Hendry and Martha Frances had six. He was father of four Baptist preachers. He spent most of his life preaching in the Peace River Association.

JOHN WRIGHT HENDRY

John Wright Hendry (September 23, 1836-February 4, 1907) was born in Thomasville, Georgia. In about 1848 he moved with his parents to Hamilton County, Florida. He was the son of Robert and Zilla Ann Moody Hendry. He was the brother of James Madison Hendry. Hendry married Sarah Payne on November 12, 1857. She was born November 16, 1835, the daughter of John and Henrietta Smith Payne. They had one child, Amanda Lugenia Hendry (born September 29, 1858, and died September 24, 1941). After the death of Sarah in 1897, John married Civy Venetta Thompson and they had four children. In the fall of 1859 the Hendry’s moved from Hamilton County near Jasper, to Chicora on the south prong of the Alafia River in Hillsborough County. Hendry served in the Seventh Florida Infantry, Company E, in the Civil War. His military discharge states that he was 5′ 6″ with black hair and hazel eyes. Church records show that Hendry was opposed to slavery and joined the United States Army on June 15, 1864 at Cedar Keys. Hendry was baptized into the Hurrah Baptist Church by his pastor A. Wilson. He was later ordained by this church and served it as pastor. Hendry was a charter member of the Maple Branch Baptist Church, and served as its pastor from 1867-1869, and from 1881-1894. He helped establish several churches; New Zion Baptist Church, Fort Ogden; Joshua Creek, Pine Level; New Hope, Fort Hartsuff (organized in 1876 and is now First Baptist Church in Wauchula); Midway, Pine Grove; Bee Ridge, and Benevolence. These churches are in the
Peace River Association. In 1888 Hendry served in the Florida House of Representatives.

Benjamin C. Hening (1863-1949) was born in Powhatan County, VA to Pocahontas Boiling Megginson and William Henry Hening. He graduated from Cozer Seminary. Hening served as pastor of several churches including Stanton Memorial Baptist Church, Miami. He married Peachey Fleet Bagby. In addition to serving as a pastor Henning served as Corresponding Secretary, Baptist Education Commission of Virginia, 1908-1918 Assistant General Director, Baptist 75 Million Campaign, 1919 Led out in establishing W. Hampton College Trustee, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Trustee, Virginia Intermont College Trustee, Tennessee College Trustee, Carson-Newman College Vice President, Southern Baptist Convention.

Grover C. “Bud” Henley, Jr. graduated from Stetson University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of First Church, Jensen Beach, Normandy Park Church, Jacksonville in 1980 and Wesconnett Baptist Church, Jacksonville. Henley has served as pastor in Florida churches for six decades. He and his wife Carolyn have two children.

JAMES BASCOM HENRY

James Bascom Henry (October 1, 1937- ) was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended Eakin Elementary, Bailey Jr. High, and Litton Senior High in Nashville. Henry graduated from Georgetown College, Kentucky (B.A., 1959), and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (B.D., 1963; M.Div., 1975). He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by Georgetown College in 1979. Henry and his wife, Jeanette were married December 27, 1959, in Cave City, Kentucky. They have three children; Kitty, Betsy, and James B. Henry II. He has served widely in state convention and denominational responsibilities. He was converted at Hopewell Baptist Church, Springfield, Tennessee, and baptized into First Baptist Church in Nashville in 1946. He has served as pastor of Mt. Pisgah in Melvin, Alabama (1960-1963), Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge, Mississippi (1963-1965), Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee (1965-1977), and First Baptist Church, Orlando, Florida (1977-2006). Henry is one of the best known pastors in Florida in that he has preached and led seminars all over the United States. He has served as president of the Southern Baptist Convention (1994-1996), and also president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Pastors Conference. He retired March 31, 2006, after serving 28 years as pastor of First Baptist Church, Orlando.

SAMUEL RAY HENRY

Samuel Ray Henry (1949-) was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, the son of Thomas and Susie Henry. He is a graduate of Mississippi College (1971) and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (1974). Henry served as pastor in Louisiana and Mississippi before coming to Florida. He became pastor of Belvedere Baptist Church in West Palm Beach in 1990, and has served the church, the Palm Lake Baptist Association and the Florida Baptist Convention in his years in Florida. Henry and his wife Shirley Scruggs Henry have children: Chris, Faith, Renee and Michelle.

DONALD STEWART HEPBURN, III

Donald Stewart Hepburn, III, (born 1948), a native of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Baptist layman who never married, is the co-author, with the late Dr. E. Earl Joiner (1924-1997), of the 2013 book, Favored Florida, A History of Florida Baptists, Volume One 1784 – 1939.  Additionally, Hepburn is co-author with Linda Gramling Demott, the 2023 book, Elizabeth Baptist Church . . .1831 – 2023.  Since 2016, Hepburn has served as the volunteer managing director of the Florida Baptist Historical Society. During his 45-year professional career, Hepburn was a public relations management specialist who worked for several Southern Baptist-related entitles. Before retiring in 2015, Hepburn served 32 years as the Public Relations director of the Florida Baptist Convention (1983 – 2015). His previous service included: Director of Communications, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1970 – 1978); and Director of Office of Communications and Public Relations, The Southern Baptist General Convention of California (1978 – 1983). He is a graduate of Carson Newman College (now University) [B.A.- 1970]; Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary [M.R.E.-1972]; and the University of San Francisco/College of Professional Studies [M.S.-1983]. Hepburn resides in Jacksonville, Florida, where he is a member of the First Baptist Church.

Rayford Hester (1953-1997) was a native of Tifton, Georgia. He served as pastor of Parkway Baptist Church in Tallahassee, First Baptist Church in Panacea, and at the time of his death was pastor of a new church start at Wakulla Springs. Hester died unexpectedly at the age of 44 of leukemia. He and his wife, Jennifer, had one daughter, Stephanie, and one son, Timothy.

She attended Florida State University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.The Heymans had two sons, Patrick (1974) and Michael (1975).

BILLY GENE HICKEM

Billy Gene Hickem, (1928-2022) was born in Royalton, Illinois. He received the master of divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Stetson University in May 1977. Throughout his 55 years in ministry, Hickem served Southern Baptist churches in four states– Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida, and Georgia, including First Baptist Church, Panama City, 1966-1974. Hickem served as assistant executive director of the Florida Baptist Convention from August 1974 until 1983. In this role, he worked with over 2,000 Southern Baptist churches in the state, especially in pastor/staff and church relations. He oversaw all convention properties from Miami to the Panhandle. Upon leaving the Convention, Hickem went back into the local church, serving as pastor of the Riverside Baptist Church in Jacksonville. In 1984 he was elected president of the Florida Baptist State Convention and served for one year. He and his wife, Billie Jean Hickem had four children.

He graduated from the University of Florida and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She attended Florida State University and Woman’s Missionary Union Training School in Louisville. Rev. Hickman served as president of the Paraguayan Baptist Theological Institute and executive secretary-treasurer of the Paraguay Baptist Convention. Mrs. Hickman served as superintendent of the beginner Sunday school department and president of the Woman’s Missionary Union at Barrio Jara Baptist Church, Paraguay. The Hickman’s had three children.

Hicks served as Director of Missions for the Middle Florida Baptist Association and was also a schoolteacher. He and his wife Letha Buchanan Hicks had three children.

Thomas Hicks (1925-2005) was born in Lakeland, FL. He was a Naval Air Corps veteran of World War II. Hicks served as pastor of Five Points Baptist Church, Fernandina Beach, 1964-1966, Gibsonia Baptist Church and Gateway Baptist Church. He and his wife, Katherine V. had one daughter, Sandra Kay,and one son, Michael Allen.

Allen Higginbotham the son of Percy and Pearl Higginbotham. He began preaching at age 14 and was licensed to preach at 15. In 1950, at the age of 17 he was called to serve as pastor of Richland Baptist Church, Zephyrhills. Other Florida pastorates were New England Heights Baptist Church, Apopka, First Baptist Church, Sebring, and First Baptist Church, Apopka. Higginbotham graduated from Florida Southern College and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. In his retirement Higginbotham considers himself an intentional interim preacher serving as an interim pastor at many Florida Baptist churches. He and his wife Mary have six children.

Hitchcock and his wife, Patricia, were married 56 years and had two sons; Richard and David, and one daughter, Mary.

WILLIAM ANDREW HOBSON

William Andrew Hobson (June 5, 1862-September 22, 1960) was born in Bibb County, Alabama. He was the son of Francis Marion Hobson and Mary Catherine Shows Hobson. He attended Howard College (now Samford University) and received the A.B., D.D. Hobson was ordained in 1884 at Liberty Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Hobson married Lou Alma Cheek of Birmingham on October 2, 1887. They had two children, Mary Kate and Tolbert. Hobson served as pastor of Warrior and Trussville Baptist Churches near Birmingham. He was also pastor at Woodlawn Baptist Church (1894-1896) and Ruhama Baptist Church in Birmingham (1896-1900). He was pastor of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida (1900-1923), and Grace Temple Baptist Church, St. Petersburg (1924-
1927). He then served as pastor of Disstan Avenue Baptist Church, St. Petersburg (1928-1946). The church changed its name to Hobson Memorial Baptist Church shortly after Hobson returned in 1946. Hobson also served two years as editor of the Florida Baptist Witness. While at First Baptist Church, Jacksonville he organized the School of Prophets ministry. He served as a member of the State Board of Missions (1900-1926), as a member of the trustees at Stetson University (1903-1960), Florida Baptist Orphanage, and the Southern Baptist Convention Sunday School Board (1910-1923). He died in Birmingham after living nearly 100 years. His funeral was at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

Charles Hodges graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor in churches in North Carolina and as development associate with the North Carolina Baptist Children’s Home. In 1984, Hodges accepted the position of assistant executive director for the Florida Baptist Children’s Home. In 1994, Hodges became president of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home. He retired in 2002. Hodges and his wife Rose Marie Bozart Hodges had one son.

WILSON ARTHUR HOGAN

Wilson Arthur Hogan (1908-1995 ) was born at Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was the son of Marcus Leon Hogan and Zillah Eupora Wainwright Hogan. He had five brothers; Daniel (1869), Leland (1904), Leon and Cleon (1906), Colin (1913), and four sisters; Aldine (1898), Luena (1900), Alma (1902), and Mattye (1910). Hogan was raised in Hattiesburg (1908-1928), and graduated from Dixie High School in 1928. Hogan attended Mississippi College (B.A., 1932), and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky (Th.M., 1942). Hogan was converted at age 14 and baptized into the Dixie Baptist Church at Hattiesburg on August 22, 1922. He was ordained there on August 10, 1928. He married Nilda Idress King on April 12, 1934, at Oxford Mississippi. They had three children; Wilson, Jr., (1935), Nilda Ann (1939), and Mary (1941). Hogan served as pastor of a number of Baptist churches. These pastorates include Steens Creek in Florence, Mississippi (1942-1943), Star at Star, Mississippi (1942-1943), Clarke-Venable Memorial at Decatur, Mississippi (1943-1948), Bay Springs in Bay Springs, Mississippi (1948-1950), and Whitfield Memorial in Pensacola, Florida.

RUDOLPOH VELT HOGARTH

Rudolpoh Velt Hogarth (1907-1989) was born in Green Cove Springs, Florida. He was a native of Clay County was a Florida Baptist preacher for 52 years. He lived in Palatka for 70 years. He served as pastor of First Baptist, Francis, Satsuma, East Palatka First, Hope Baptist Church, Starke, Old Hollister Baptist Church, and Trinity of Palatka. He was also pastor of Southside, Sanford, Hope in Theresa, Woodlawn in Johnson, Decoy, Green Cove Springs, Ochwilla near Melrose, Beulah in Beulah, Providence in Bardin, and Salem near Green Cove Springs. In 1978 the associational minutes of St. Johns River Baptist Association were dedicated to him and his wife. Hogarth and his wife Lucille Chase Hogarth have three daughters.

J. B. HOLLEY

J. B. Holley moved from Kentucky to become pastor of the Gainesville Baptist Church in 1902, where he served until 1903. He also served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Winter Garden, 1922-1923. He moved to Georgia where he served as pastor of several churches before returning to Florida to pastor First Baptist Church, Winter Garden. Holley and W. A. Hobson were co-editors of the Southern Baptist Witness during the early 1900s. Holley died March 20, 1924 shortly after accepting the pastorate at First Baptist Church, Winter Park in September, 1923.

JOHN E. HOLLEY

John E. Holley (1849-1924) was born in Monroe County, Alabama, to James D. Holley and Susan E. Etheridge. He married Rebecca Jane Wiggins in 1868 and they had at least five sons; William, James, Burrel, John, and Charles. Rebecca died in 1897. Holley then married Sabra Boan and they had one child, Allison. John E. Holley rode horse back and traveled by boat to serve churches in the Escambia County area. He was a faithful missionary, pastor, and church starter in North West Florida.

ERIC HOLLEYMAN

Eric Holleyman graduated from high school at Mullberry in 1973. He also graduated from Mississippi College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (ThD.). During the summer of 1975 he served as a missionary to Israel. Holleyman served as pastor of Westside Baptist Church in Pontchatoula, Louisiana, and First Baptist Church in Quincy, Florida before moving to pastor in Waco, Texas. As senior pastor of Waco he had the opportunity to teach as an adjunct for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and for Baylor University. In 2002, Holleyman became a fulltime professor at Baylor serving with the Department of Religion. Holleyman and his wife, Clara Glascock, a registered nurse, have two children; Courtney and Taylor.

Hollis, had three children, Mark, William Jr., and Marjorie.

Subsequently Dr. Holmes was promoted to associate professor of philosophy at Stetson.  He earned the Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercer University and the Bachelor of Divinity and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Emory University.

ADONIRAM JUDSON HOLT

Adoniram Judson Holt (December 1, 1847-May 15, 1933) was born in Somerset, Kentucky. He attended McKenzie College and received a D.D. degree from Baylor University in Texas. He also attended The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and later served as a trustee there. In 1862 Holt entered the Confederate Army at age 15 and served for the rest of the war. In 1875-76 he served as a missionary among the Seminole Indians, and from 1877-1879 served as a missionary to the Indians in the Oklahoma Territory. Holt served as pastor in Texas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Florida. The Baptist churches in Florida included Lake City, Kissimmee, Boca Grande, Arcadia, and Punta Gorda (1924-1927). Holt served as moderator of Peace River Baptist Association for six years and as president of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Florida (1913-1914). He was editor of the Florida Baptist Witness from 1914-1918. Holt was one of the leading Baptist preachers of his day, and had a wide influence in evangelism, missions, publication, and denominational service. The 1933 Florida Baptist Convention Annual was dedicated to Dr. Holt. Holt was married to Alice Markham, and they had three children. Upon her death, he married Emma Dennis, and they had ten children. He and Emma were married 58 years.

He and his wife Endia G. Holt have two children.

Edwin G. Holton (1933-2013) was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired employee from J. C. Penney before moving to Florida in 1992. Holton served as an associate director of missions for the South Florida Baptist Association. He led in the organization of Great Commission Baptist Church in Lakeland. He and his wife Dollie, had sons Edwin, Jerry and Michael.

Tommie L. Holton, Sr. (1934-2010) was born in Cocoa, Florida, the son of George W. and Bernice Holton. He was ordained in 1979 by the Lebanon Baptist Church, Branford. Holton served as pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, Palatka and Sunrise Baptist Church, St. Lucie (formerly White City Baptist).  He was involved for many years with the prison ministry at Raiford State Prison. Holton and his wife Barbara Ann Goodwin Holton had four children.

CHARLES FRANK HOOKER

Charles Frank Hooker (1894-1973) served as a Baptist preacher for over 50 years. He served as pastor of 29 churches in Illinois and Florida. Hooker moved to Florida in 1936, and had at least 30 men to surrender to the call to preach under his influence. Hooker served as a chaplain in World War I, on the front lines, where he was allowed to preach to the captured Germans. He and his wife, Lucille, had four children.

David Hope was born in Brooksville, Florida, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hope. He attended Georgetown College, Luther Rice Seminary, the University of South Florida and Trinity College. Hope served as pastor of Weeki Wachee Baptist Church, Tribly Baptist Church, Hicks Road Baptist Church, Hudson, First Baptist Church, Sanibel Island, Amelia Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Hernando Beach, and Bethel Baptist Church, Pasco County. James Ronald “Bud” Hope (1932-  ) was born in Chattanooga, TN. He graduated from Stetson University (A. B., 1966) and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (ThM., 1968). Hope served in the United States Air Force and served as pastor in Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee. Hope had extensive interest and experience in the business world and he married Theresa Hope who was a registered nurse.

Charles Horton (1937-   ) was born in Palatka, Florida, the son of Alva E. And Estelle Minton Horton. He is a graduate of Stetson University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of Flagami Baptist Church, Miami, and then went as pastor of College Park Baptist Church, Orlando from April 1977 to 2006. In 2009 Horton was called as pastor of FBC, Cocoa, where he served until 2014. He and his wife Carolyn have two children.

Marilyn ‘Frances’ Horton (1925-2015) was born in Frostproof, Florida. Pensacola became her hometown and at age 16 she trusted Christ as her Savior. She attended Stetson University (B.A.) and Carver School of Missions and Social Work (MRE). Frances Horton was appointed a Southern Baptist missionary to Japan in 1952 and served there for 35 years.

William Butler Horton, Sr. (1916-1962) was the son of Vincent Horton and Mary Jane Hale Horton-Bailey. He served as pastor of Midway Baptist Church, Palatka, 1942-1944 and Providence Baptist Church, Palatka. Horton, Sr. and his wife Merdice Cercile Cook Horton were both killed in an automobile accident January 27, 1962. They had two sons.

Howard married Bernice Roberts and they have seven children.

L. D. HOWARD

L. D. Howard attended Stetson University with the desire to train for the ministry as a pastor. While working to earn money by selling books, his horse ran away and he was thrown out of his conveyance. He was seriously injured and died a week later in July 1901 in Moultrie, Georgia. Howard had dropped out of school due to poor health, when the tragedy occurred. He was a pious young man and eager to train for ministerial usefulness.

CARL ALONZO HOWELL

Carl Alonzo Howell (December 15, 1901-December 8, 1978) was born in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Howell graduated from Danbridge High School in Danbridge, Tennessee. He attended Carson-Newman College (B.A.), and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (B.D., 1929).
Howell was ordained by First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He married Gladys Fulton on December 28, 1919, and they had three children; John, Anne, and Carol. Howell was pastor in Dayton, Tennessee; Eustis, Florida; Leesburg, Florida; and Chattanooga, Tennessee from 1928-1945. In 1945 he became pastor of Murray Hill Baptist Church, Jacksonville and while he was pastor the church started eleven missions and had twenty men licensed to preach. Howell was President of the Florida Baptist Convention in 1958 and 1959. He served as a trustee at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville from 1958 to 1970.

E. MILFORD HOWELL

E. Milford Howell (1918-1993) was a native of Texas. He served as a foreign missionary to Nigeria from 1943 to 1964. He served as a pastor in Texas and Maryland until he came to Florida in 1972 where he served as director of missions for Southwest Florida Association until 1983. He and his wife, Eleanor, had one daughter, May, and two sons, Daniel and William.

JOHN E. HOWELL

John E. Howell (1933-1979) died of a brain tumor at age 46 in Louisville, Kentucky. Howell had served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., First Baptist Church in Deland, Florida, and Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky from 1972 to 1978. Howell was a graduate of Stetson, Southeastern Theological Seminary, and Duke University. His father was Carl Howell who served as president of the Florida Baptist Convention in 1958-1959. Howell and his wife, Bettye Henderson Howell, had two daughters, Leslie and Emily, and three sons, John, Philip, and Daniel.

Lee Howell (1964-   ) was born in Columbia, SC. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and the University of California. SIM PEARMAN HOWELL

Sim Pearman Howell (1907-1986) was born in Wellborn, Florida, and accepted Christ as Saviour at age eleven. He served as a policeman in Jacksonville for 20 years. He served as sheriff of Suwannee County from 1948 to 1952, but chose not to run for reelection. He was licensed to preach by Union Baptist Church in 1952. Howell attended Baptist Bible Institute in Graceville, Florida, and served as student pastor in Florida and Alabama. In Florida he served as pastor of Old Providence Baptist Church in Columbia County, and Ephesus in Hilliard. He retired in 1975.

W. M. Howell (1828-   ) was born in Twiggs County, Georgia, the son of Hiram and Mary Howell. He attended Union University, Tennessee. Howell was ordained by Daleville Baptist Church, Alabama in 1859. He served as pastor in Alabama and Florida including First Baptist Church, Campbellton in 1865 and Ebenezer Baptist Church, Vernon. Howell married H. N. McKeicher in 1858 and they had nine children.

Fred D. Hubbs (1924-2004) served as pastor of Arlington Baptist Church in Jacksonville from 1976-1984. He was appointed in 1952 as director of missions for Southern Baptists in Michigan and served as their first executive director until 1971. Hubbs and his wife Shirley were married 61 years, and had four children; Sharon, Carol, Deborah, and Fred Junior.

Thomas Shivers Hubert (October 12, 1860-April 4, 1953) was born in Warrenton, Georgia. He was licensed to preach at age 19. He graduated from Vanderbilt University. He served as pastor in Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, and Florida. He served at First Baptist Church, Lake City, College Street Baptist Church, Dade City and First Baptist Church in Kissimmee, Florida (1926-1941). It is said he performed more weddings than any other ministry in the history of Osceola County.

James Hughes (1937-) was born in Holmes County, Florida. James served two years in the army and in 1960 married Binnie Evans Hughes. He worked at Monsanto Corporation from 1958 to 1990. He attended Bay Minette Community College and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary Extension. Hughes was saved in 1975 and ordained as a minister in 1989. He and Binnie were appointed as full time missionaries by the SBC, Forgein Misson Board in 1989 and served in Ogbomosho, Nigeria until 1996. Hughes served as pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Bluff Springs, 1999-2007.

Morgan Morris Hughes (1908-1965) was born in Northport, Alabama, the son of Steven Ewell and Martha M. “Mattie” Redd Hughes. He was ordained at Gapway Baptist Church, Lakeland. T. RUSSELL HUGHES

T. Russell Hughes (1940-   ) was born in Beaumont, TX, the son of Charles Samuel and Electra Katherine Phillips Hughes. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, TX and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth. Hughes served as associate for the Sunday School Department of the Florida Baptist Convention. He and his wife Nancy Henderson Hughes were married in 1966. They had two children.

WILLIAM J. HUGHES

William J. Hughes (September 15, 1849-April 18, 1900) was the son of Green B. Hughes, and grandson of John Hughes. He was born in Wilkinson County, Georgia, September 15, 1849. He was converted at age 15, and attended Mercer University, and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Ordained after graduating from Mercer, Hughes worked in Georgia. He came to the Alachua Association in 1876. His first wife was Mary Ellis of Georgia. His second wife was Edith Armstrong. He served as pastor of most of the churches in Sumter County and several churches in Marion, Lake, Citrus, and Hernando counties also. Hughes served three years as moderator of Alachua Association. He died at Webster, Florida, on April 18, 1900. There were five daughters by his first marriage, and one son and one daughter by his second marriage.

B. I. Hull served as pastor of Oclawaha Bridge Church at Palatka in 1873, 1899 and 1914-1915.

E. J. HULL

E. J. Hull (1828-1897) served as pastor of Friendship Baptist Church of Fruitville in 1875-1876 and First Baptist Church, Wauchula1893-1897. He was a circuit riding preacher. Hull died in 1897. He was a Baptist preacher for 24 years, and served primarily in the Manatee (now Peace River) Association.

LINCOLN HULLEY

Hulley,-Lincoln

Lincoln Hulley (1865-1934) was born near Camden, NJ the son of Mary Ella Curry and George Hulley, Jr. He was a graduate of Bucknell University, and did post graduate work at Harvard. Hulley was an ordained minister, and served on the faculty at Bucknell before he went to Stetson. Hulley was an exceptional teacher, brilliant scholar, and nationally known orator. He was a prolific author of books and a playwright. He served as the second President of Stetson University and is known for serving the longest term  (1904-1934), and also served two terms in the State Senate starting in 1918. In his administration the student body enrollment increased to 500, and the school obtained recognized accreditation. Hulley served as president of the Florida Baptist State Convention 1928-1929. While serving as a professor at Bucknell Hulley met and married Harriet Spratt, in 1889, and they had one daughter.  After Harreit’s death in 1892 Hulley took a leave from Bucknell to work on a Ph. D. at the Univeristy of Chicago, while there he met and married Eloise Mayham in 1893 and they had three children. Hulley’s son, Benjamin, class of 1817, was Florida’s first Rhodes scholar. Hulley died of a heart attack in January 1934, at the age of 69.

B. E. EDDIE HUMES

B. E. Eddie Humes (1932-2018) graduated from East Texas Baptist College, Marshall, TX, Stephen F. Austin State College, Nacodoches, TX, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC. He pastored Tabernacle Baptist Church in Palatka, 1964-1967, High Springs Baptist Church 1967-1975 and First Baptist Church of Madison 1975-1987. He was then called to serve as Director of Missions for Layfayette Baptist Association in North Central Florida 1987-1997. Humes and his wife Jackie Hogarth Humes had three sons.

LOUIS HOGARTH HUMES

Louis Hogarth Humes (1961-) was the son of Eddie and Jackie Humes. He attended FSU, Stetson, and Southern Seminary, Louisville, KY. Humes has served as pastor in Kentucky and Florida. Humes pastored First Baptist Church, Welaka (1981-83). He and his wife Angela have two daughters, Cassandra and Charlotte.

O. R. RAN HUMPHREYS, JR.

O. R. Ran Humphreys, Jr. has served as pastor of churches in West Virginia, Virginia and Florida, including First Baptist Church, Gray Gables, Callahan; North 14th Street Baptist Church, Fernandina Beach; and First Baptist Gibsonton. Humphreys and his wife Dorothy Kensinger Humphreys have eight children.

Wade Humphries is a native of Florida. He graduated from Florida Southern College, Lakeland, Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, Memphis and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville. JAMES TOWNSEND HUMPHRIES

James Townsend Humphries (1841-1896) was born near Halcyondale, Georgia, August 8, 1841. He was studying theology when he joined the Confederate Army, in which he served four years; was wounded five times, one time very severely in the right lung, which ultimately caused his death in 1896. Humphries served churches in Georgia until he relocated in 1887 for health reasons. In 1894 he became pastor of Olive Baptist church and Greenville church. Humphries was married to Valeria Moore in 1864 and they had six children, one son and five daughters.

W. T. HUNDLEY

W. T. Hundley was an alumnus of Richmond College and Crozer Theological Seminary. He served for about 50 years. He pastored in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. He married Annie C. Humphries of Bardstown, Kentucky. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church Apopka, Florida, and Gainesville Baptist Church (1894-1901). He died in DeLand in 1934.

MICHAEL E. HUNKUS

Michael E. Hunkus is a graduate of the Baptist College of Florida, Ashwood University, and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Hunkis served as pastor of Sanders Baptist Church in Sanders, Kentucky, before becoming pastor of First Baptist Church in Summerfield in 2004. He also served as pastor of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Westville, 1997-1998. Hunkus and his wife, Candy, have five children.

JULIAN WOODROW HUNSUCKER 

Julian Woodrow “Woody” Hunsucker (December 7, 1920-May 5, 2012) was born December 7, 1920, in Marlboro County, South Carolina. He graduated from Mercer University, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the University of West Florida. He married Hazell Kell in 1945. The Hunsuckers had three sons; Wayne, Rick and Randy. Hunsucker served as pastor of Oakcrest Baptist Church in Pensacola, Calvary Baptist Church in Foley, Alabama, First Baptist Church, Harold, and Berrydale Baptist Church of Berrydale. Woody taught Bible at Milton High School from 1969-1986.

G. T. HUNT

G. T. Hunt (1885-1967) served as a Baptist minister for 50 years. He was a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and from 1908-1933, served 20 churches in Georgia. From 1933 to 1958, he served churches primarily in Gadsden, Liberty, Jackson, and Washington counties in Florida. In North Florida he served as pastor at Providence, Antioch, and Franklin in Quincy. He served Corinth in Hosford, Concordia in Havana, Woodville, Lake Mystic, Altha, Sneads, Shady Grove, Grand Ridge, Bristol, and Wausau.

Hillis Hunt (    -1965) was a native of Kentucky. He was ordained at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Marion, Kentucky. Hunt served as pastor of churches in Kentucky and Florida, including Coral Park Baptist Chapel, Miami and Grapeland Heights Baptist Church, Miami. He and his wife, Iva May Hunt had two children.

Larry Hunt (March 5, 1945- ) has served as Baptist Campus Minister at Florida A and M University since 1971. He is a native of Newberry, Florida, and he attended The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div., 1970). Hunt served as pastor of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, and Unity Baptist Church, both in Tallahassee, and served with the Home Mission Board and the Florida Baptist Convention before going to Florida A and M. Hunt and his wife, Dorothy Bell Hunt (married August 8, 1970) are members of the Unity Baptist Church in Tallahassee.

William Hal Hunter (1919-2006) was born in Live Oak, Florida, and was a graduate of Stetson University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Hunter served as an Army chaplain in World War II. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Lake Wales; First Baptist Church, Crestview; Northwood Baptist Church, West Palm Beach; Riverside,Tampa, First Baptist Church, Pahokee and First Baptist Church, Pelham. He served as president of the Florida Baptist Convention in 1960. He served as interim pastor in 19 churches in Georgia. He and his wife, Esther Strange Hunter, were married 64 years and had one daughter, Elaine and one son, Hal Jr.

HUBERT HURT

Hubert Hurt (1925-2011) was born in Louisville, Mississippi on May 30, 1925. He attended Mississippi College (B. A.); New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (M. Div.); and the University of Southern Mississippi (M. A.). Hurt and his wife, Eva, served as home missionaries in Cuba from 1957-1961 and Panama from 1961-1965. Hurt directed the Florida Baptist language work from 1964 until his retirement in 1990. When Hurt retired in 1990, Florida Baptists had 275 ethnic congregations worshipping in 21 languages. Hurt and his wife Eva were language pioneers in the Florida Baptist Convention.

Albert Warren Huyck (1907-1985) served as pastor in North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and Florida. He served on the executive committee of all four state conventions where he had peviously served. He served in Florida as pastor of First Baptist Church, West Palm Beach. He and his wife, Charlie Mae, had two daughters, Jean and Margaret, and two sons, Albert Jr., and James.

Don Lynn Hyatt a native of Little Rock, SC. Hyatt graduated from Columbia International University (B.S.), Luther Rice Seminary (M.Div.), and Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min.). He became pastor of First Baptist Church Callahan on July 1, 1979 and has served as senior pastor for over 40 years. He and his wife, Peggy, have two children; Lyndsy and Don.

J. D. Hyatt (1922-2017) was born in Bowdon, Georgia, the son of Lemuel Lee and Ora Florine Lovvorn Hyatt. At the age of 40 he enrolled in the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida, including Hardeetown Baptist Church, Chiefland. He and his wife Audrey Belle Thompson Hyatt had five children.
