Glen E. Tadlock (1914-1986) was a native of Darlington, Florida, the son of John Franklin and Donna Eliza Pittman Tadlock. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Floral City, Calvary Baptist Church, Anclote, First Baptist Church, Aripeka, First Baptist Church, Lacoochee, Calvary Baptist Church, Dade City, Brighton First Baptist Church, Okeechobee, First Baptist Church, Oklawaha and Hopeful Baptist Church, Lake City. Tadlock and his wife, Eveylee Tadlock had four children.

Lester Taggart (1913-2002) served as pastor of Beulah Baptist Church, Clay County in 1976-1979. Taggart and his wife Gladys had three children.

T. L. TALBERT
T. L. Talbert served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Pensacola in 1885. He attended Mississippi College and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife had four boys. A church pleasure trip in 1885 to Santa Rosa Island ended in tragedy with the heart attack of pastor Talbert. He was not able to preach again and died soon in his native state of Mississippi.

HENRY TALBIRD
Henry Talbird (November 7, 1811-October 14, 1890) served as a professor and then president of Howard College in Marion, Alabama. He was born in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and attended Madison (now Colgate) University (A.M., 1841). He married Mary C. Griffin on January 15, 1845. During the Civil War he served in the Alabama 7th and 41st regiments. Talbird served as pastor at Tuscaloosa, Alabama (1842), Henderson, Kentucky (1868-1871), Lexington, Missouri (1872-1884), and Starke, Florida (1884-1887). Talbird’s wife Mary died two weeks to the day after her husband.

Andrew W. Tampling (1928-2009) was a native of Madison, Florida. He served as pastor of Corinth Baptist Church, Jasper, 1946-1947 and First Baptist Church, Fort Meade. Tampling and his wife Bobbie Tampling had three children.

Kenneth Tanner (1924-2006) was born in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from Baptist Bible Institute, Graceville. Tanner served as pastor of Baldwin Avenue Baptist Church, DeFuniak Springs; Collins Chapel, Malone; Oak Grove Baptist Church; Union Baptist Church, Tampa; Gray Gables Baptist Church, Callahan; Oak Avenue Baptist Church, 1991-1994, and Woodlawn Baptist Church, Johnson. He and his wife Lily M. Louk Tanner had one daughter.

Jim Tatum (1927-2012) was a member of First Baptist Church Jacksonville and had a successful career in the insurance business before beginning a
ministry of “suits for servants.” He opened a number of clothing stores but his joy was loving his family, teaching his Sunday School class and putting
preachers in new suits. He and his wife Bernice were married for 63 years and had four children, Terri, Tim, Tracy, Tammy and nine grandchildren.

ELIAS EDWARD (E. E.) TAYLOR
Elias Edward (E. E.) Taylor (1878-1935) was born in Tifton, Georgia, the son of William W. and Polly Ann Turner Taylor. He served in the Spanish-American War in the U. S. Army. Taylor was ordained in 1920 by Green Pond Baptist Church, Polk County. He served as pastor of Green Pond Baptist Church, Polk County; Richland Baptist Church, Zephyrhills; White Temple Baptist Church; Double Branch Baptist Church (now First Baptist Church, Wesley Chapel); New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Center Hill; Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Christmas; and Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Taylor married Julia Edney Platt on December 27, 1879 and they had two sons. Julia died in 1907. After Julia’s death Taylor married Nina Lou Hudgins on July 19, 1908.

Glen McCully Taylor (1906-1992) was born in Ethel, Missouri. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and the University of Florida. Taylor taught Civics and Problems of American Democracy at the former Ketterlinus High School, St. Augustine. He was the founder and first pastor of Anastasia Baptist Church, St. Augustine. Taylor and his wife Gertrude Leone Pipes Taylor had one daughter.

HAROLD OATES TAYLOR
Harold Oates Taylor (1930-2017) was born in Columbia, Alabama. He was an undergraduate of Auburn University and M.Div. graduate of Southern Seminary. He moved to pastor First Baptist, Davie from 1961-1994 when he retired due to illness. Taylor was active in associational life, serving as Moderator, Vice-Moderator, Chairman of the Palm Beach Atlantic College Committee, Gulf Stream Association Foundation Trustee and was prominent in developing the book, We Came from Many Nations: A Fifty-Year History of South Florida’s Gulf Stream Baptist Association, 1948 – 1998. During this time, he also served as Chaplain to the Davie Police Department, Chaplain to the Davie Rodeo and a Charter Member of the Davie Kiwanis Club. Later, he served First Baptist, Hallandale and Gardens Baptist Church until his death. He was married to MaryAnn Stringfellow Taylor and had a daughter and a son.

HOMER N. TAYLOR
Homer N. Taylor (1914-2001) served as a pastor in Central Florida for more than 55 years. He helped start Woodhaven Church and Victory Church in
Orlando and Rock Springs Church in Apopka. He and his wife, Hassie, had two sons, Richard and Eddie.

HUBERT R. TAYLOR
Hubert R. Taylor (1926-1990) was a native of Jacksonville. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Cedar Key, First Baptist Church of Lake Monroe, Hart Haven Baptist Church for seventeen years, Riverside Park Baptist Church for eleven years, and Dames Point Baptist Church for six years. After retirement in 1988, Taylor devoted himself to gospel ventriloquism, and presented programs in nearly 100 churches in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. He attended Stetson University, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and New Orleans Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Gwendolyn, had two daughters, Melba and Lois.

IRVIN LAFAYETTE TAYLOR
Irivn Lafayette Taylor (1845-1929) was born in Greenville, AL. served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Pensacola (1879-1881). He served as pastor of Milton Baptist Church on three occasions. Taylor was very active preaching in Escambia County, Santa Rosa County and Conecuh County, Alabama. Taylor served in the Alabama 61st, Company D in the Civil War. After the war Taylor married Frances “Fannie” Jane Burke and they had 10 children. Only a daughter survived to adulthood.

Larry Alden Taylor (1940- ) was born in Lynn, North Carolina. He graduated from Western Carolina University, the Southern Baptist Center for Biblical Studies and Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville. MARY A. TAYLOR
Mary A. Taylor studied at the Chicago Baptist Training School. She went to Havana, Cuba, in 1900 under the appointment of the Home Mission Board.
She may have been the first woman appointed by Florida Baptists for mission service abroad.

Perry T. Taylor (1884-1960) served as pastor of Phoenix Baptist Church, Jacksonville, 1913-1916, Sebring Baptist Church, 1922, Dania in 1923, First Baptist Church, Delray Beach, 1929-1932, First Baptist Church of Miami, Lemon City, 1932-1935, Coconut Grove Baptist Church, Miami 1932-33, Tabernacle Baptist Church (now Highland Park), Sylvania Heights Baptist Church, Citra Baptist Church, Bird Road Baptist Chapel, and New Hope Baptist Church, Fort Lauderdale. Taylor was the publisher of the Miami Baptist Association publication The Miami Baptist. Taylor and his wife, Ethel Taylor had two daughters and three sons. His daughter Faye served as a missionary to Indonesia with the Southern Baptist Convention, Foreign Mission Board.

as pastor of First Baptist Church, Folkston, Georgia; Wesconnet, Holly Ford, Paul Avenue, all in Jacksonville, and First Baptist Church, Sorrento.

LUCINA BEACH TELFORD
Lucina Beach Telford (1826-1892 was born in Brockport, New York. In January 1887, she was chosen as the Corresponding Secretary of the Woman’s Mission Work of the Florida Baptist Convention. She worked through the local associations and traveled and spoke widely for mission causes. Her health limited her but she worked through yellow fever scares, drought, and economic downturn to promote missions among women of the Florida Baptist churches. Lucina Beach married Robert Telford of Hall, New York, and they served as American Baptist foreign missionaries for ten years in Thailand, Siam, and China. They returned to the United States in 1864 and Robert Telford served as a pastor in the midwest for 19 years. Lucina served the Woman s Mission cause in Florida for six years. She died July 17, 1893.

Albert Eugene “Gene” Tennes was born in Paducah, Ky., to the late Mikel and Hannah Tennes. Tennes served as pastor of Oakdale Baptist Church (now Valley Road), Crestview and Wright Baptist Church, Fort Walton Beach, 1962-1964. He and his wife Earline Cowart of Fort Walton Beach had one son, and five daughters.

LULU SPARKMAN TERRY
Lula Sparkman Terry (May 24, 1887-1965) was born at Wauchula, Florida. She was the daughter of Thomas J. Sparkman and Susan E. Futch Sparkman. Her father was a minister and her mother a housekeeper. Terry had four brothers; Hugh (1880), Walter (1884), William Carey (1891), Charles Spurgeon (1894), and two sisters; Mary (1878) and Maude (1882). She was converted in 1898, and baptized in the Peace River at Arcadia, Florida. She was raised in Wauchula, Punta Gorda, Arcadia, Nocatee, Owens, Deland, and Lakeland, Florida. She attended Stetson University, and the W.M.U. Training School in Louisville, Kentucky (B.M.T., 1910). She became interested in mission work in Latin America at an early age. Lula married Adolph John Terry (July 5, 1883) on June 8, 1911, at Palmetto, Florida. They were appointed to serve in Brazil in July 1912. A. J. Terry died in 1945 but Lula was able to carry on her work in Brazil until she retired in 1957 after 45 years of service. They had two children; Daniel (1912) and Susan (1917). Both children were born in Recife, Brazil.

Cornelius Tate Tew (1880-1948) died in Alachua on July 19, 1948. Tew was a Baptist preacher for over 40 years. He served as pastor in North Carolina,
Mississippi, Texas, Kentucky, and Florida. Tew was pastor of First Baptist Church, Fort Myers from 1927 to 1937, and First Baptist Church in Pompano
from 1937 to 1945.

J. Earl Tharp (c 1908-1998) served as pastor of Livingston Baptist Church, Lutz, 1975-1979 (now New Tampa) and New Orleans Baptist Church in Tampa for 38 years before retiring. He and his wife, Wilma, were married for 65 years, and they had one daughter, Paulette. Tharp served as pastor in the Tampa Bay area for 43 years.

J. H. Tharp (1880-1938) served for a time as an editor of the Florida Baptist Witness. He assisted in the building of the subscription list and served as a public relations man for the paper and the convention as he was a one-man news bureau sending and receiving information on Baptist work from secular and religious journals. He resigned from the Witness in 1909 due to ill health. Tharp served as a pastor of First Baptist Church, Winter Haven (1902) First Baptist Church, Lakeland (1902-1906) and First Baptist Church, Sarasota (1909). The church started having services every Sunday and built a parsonage and a new auditorium during his ministry.

James H. Thayer (1882-1942) was born in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of James Henry and Sarah Bryan Axson Thayer. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Deland, 1927-1928, and pastor of University Baptist Church, Coral Gables 1928-1937. Thayer and his wife, Ethel Leulma Gunter Thayer had one son.

R. W. THIOT
R. W. Thiot died in the prime of life on May 19, 1931 while serving as pastor of Avondale Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He also served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Plant City, 1908; First Baptist Church, Eau Gallie, 1909; First Baptist Church, St. Lucie, 1909; First Baptist Church, Fort Pierce, 1910; and First Baptist Church, DeLand, 1924. While serving in Plant City Thiot was the chaplain for first company Coast Artillery and a former Young Men’s Christian Association worker. In 1923, the degree of Doctor of Divinity was conferred to him by Stetson University. Thiot also served with the Southern Baptist Convention as the home mission board evangelist in 1921. He was married to Annie Mundy Thiot.

William B. Thirlwell (1909-1989) was a graduate of Georgetown College and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky. He served as pastor in Brooksville, St. Augustine, Jacksonville and Five Points Baptist Church, Fernandina Beach, 1947-1951. He also served for many years as chaplain at the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.

J. W. Thomas (November 28, 1824-August 24, 1899) was born in Barnwell, South Carolina on November 28, 1824. He was converted at age 17, and joined the Baptist Church at Cypress Chapel, South Carolina. In 1850 he moved to Florida, and joined the church at Hawthorn. In the fall of 1853 he moved to Penial where he lived and labored till he was called up higher. He was ordained in December 1854, and faithfully preached the gospel for 45 years. Thomas served as pastor of Peniel Lighthouse Baptist Church, Palatka, 1856-1859 and 1863-1867.

Thomas served as president of the Florida Baptist Convention (1996-1997) and also served as trustee at the Baptist College of Florida (1997-2000) and Palm Beach Atlantic University. He and his wife Karen had four children: Nathan, Nolan, Lauren and Kelsey.

Vernon Thomas (1907-1945) was born in Nassau County Florida, the son of David Madison and Chal Treatie Wellington Thomas. He served as a pastor of First Baptist church, Pomona, Mt. Olive, Hedges, Oceanway, Springhill, Pine Grove, North 14th Street, Brandy Branch in Bryceville, and Midway in Fernandina. In 1938, Thomas presented the request for letters of dismissal to the Jacksonville Baptist Association on behalf of a group of church for the purpose of organizing a new association. That association was the Northeast Florida Baptist Association. Thomas and his wife had two sons.

Leon B. Thomason (1931-2011) was ordained to the ministry in1956. He served as pastor in Georgia and Florida including First Baptist Church, Gretna and First Baptist Church, Crystal River in 1969 where he served until his retirement in 1995. While serving First Baptist Church, Gretna he was Chaplain of the Florida Legislature during the 1959 and 1960 session. Thomason was chosen as a minister of the year by Stetson University in 1980. He and his wife Ethelyene had three daughters.

John N. Thompson (September 24, 1870-July 18, 1957) was born in Reidsville, Georgia. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Thompson. He became a Missionary Baptist minister early in life. His first pastorate was at Surrency, Georgia. He served in Florida at Tampa, Punta Gorda, Terra Cota, Fort Pierce, La Crosse, Micanopy, Havana, Island Grove, Winder Garden, Oviedo (191-1925) and Geneva, (1919). Thompson married Annis C. Thompson. They had one child, J. Allen Thompson.

LARRY THOMPSON
Larry Thompson served as pastor in Hobart, Oklahoma; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Merritt Island, Florida; and Mobile, Alabama before becoming pastor of First Baptist Church, Fort Lauderdale in 1994. Thompson was a pastor-teacher and served as pastor in Virginia for twenty-one years before moving to Florida. From 1904-1910, Thompson was pastor

Ben Tidwell (1927-1990) died of a heart attack in the Sunday morning worship service on March 18, 1990, while serving as pastor of Westside Baptist Church in Boynton Beach. He served churches in Miami and Hialeah. Tidwell was known as the father of bus ministries in south Florida. He and his wife, Doris, had three daughters, Carolyn, Nancy, and Becky, and one son, Ben III.

In 1935 he became pastor of Pompano Baptist Church. His last sermon was entitled “Preparation for Death”. He and his wife had one son, George and a daughter, Willie Burt.

Samuel Timmons (1835-1912) was the son of Margaret Catherine McRae and Elijah B. Timmons of nearby Melrose. Timmons came to Florida as a young man and served as a Confederate soldier during the War Between the States. He returned to serve as Putnam County Tax Assessor and a county commissioner. He served as pastor of Parran Baptist Church, Grandin (1864-1866). Timmons married Frances Ursula Seigler (1842-1910).

CARLTON WATSON TODD
Carlton Watson Todd (August 5, 1916-February 1998) is one of the most remarkable Baptist pastors who ever served due to his records of longevity. He was pastor of three Primitive Baptist Churches in three different states at the same time for about 50 years each. Todd was pastor of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Caryville, Florida (1941-1998), County Line Primitive Baptist Church in Abbeville, Alabama (1956-1998), and Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Arlington, Georgia (1942-1998). Todd was born in Bluffton, Georgia, on August 5, 1916. He married Martha Melvin Todd, and they had three children; Aaron, John Rutherford, and Jeanelle (Sapp). Todd was baptized at the age of 19 by Elder W. I. Kelly. He was ordained in October, 1940, by W. I. Kelly, R. K. Blacksher, and Tom Crawford who served as the ordination council. C. W. Todd set a record of pastoral faithfulness in the same three churches with the annual call and war and economic downturns. His people called him faithful.

DAVID TOMBERLIN
David Tomberlin (February 24, 1941-December 10, 1983) was born in Milledgeville, Georgia. He and his wife, Nancy Irene, had three sons; Jim, Darrell, and David. His son David died in May 1983 of Muscular Dystrophy. Tomberlin was licensed in 1978 and ordained February 7, 1982, at First Baptist Church in Bascom, Georgia. He moved to Graceville, Florida, to attend the Baptist Bible Institute. Tomberlin started his pastoral work at First Baptist Church in Bascom. Not soon after he stopped on Interstate 10 to help three people get out of an overturned automobile and was killed in his efforts. FOREMAN WILSON TOMBERLIN
Foreman Wilson Tomberlin (1891-1968) was born in Monticello, AL. He attended Baptist Bible Institute (now New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary). Tomberlin served as a minister in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida for over 40 years. He served as pastor of Malone, Greenwood, and Bonifay. Tomberlin married Lona Helen McLean Tomberlin and they had six children.

R. P. “Tommy” Tomberlin, Jr., (1922-2013) was born in Tallahassee. He graduated from Leon High School, served as Corporal in the US Marines during WWII, and obtained a Bachelors of Engineering from the University of Miami and a Masters of Divinity from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor for a total of 55 years, including 25 years at Seminole Baptist, Tallahassee (1952-1975). Tomberlin and his wife Christine had four children.

JOHN HENRY TOMKIES
John Henry Tomkies (1839-1878) was born in Hanover County, Virginia, the son of Edmond M. and Mary Christian Tomkies. He was raised in a pious home, well off and educated. Converted and committed to preach, Tomkies entered Richmond College at age 19. He was ordained at Ashland, Virginia, under the ministry of J. William Jones and E A. Dickinson. Just before the Civil War, Tomkies moved to Madison, Florida, and preached and taught school there. He then taught at the East Florida Seminary (Gainesville) and preached in the area. Tomkies enlisted in the Florida 7th Regiment as a private and after one year was elected chaplain of the regiment. He served through the war and then served in the Gainesville area by preaching at Fort Clark, Waccahoota and Stafford’s Pond Churches. He served as pastor at Fernandina (1868-1870); Elim, Eliam, Providence, Pleasant Grove (1870-1875); and First Baptist Church in Gainesville (1873-1875). In the years 1973, 1875-1876, Tomkies served as president of the Florida Baptist Convention. Tomkies married Fannie Emma McCuen, and they had three daughters and one son.

R. Perry Tomlinson (1908-1998) was a native of Hardee County, Florida, the son of Ira Warren and Julia E. Buffum Tomlinson. He was ordained in 1933 and graduated from the University of Tampa and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Tomlinson served as pastor of Boca Grande Baptist Church, Frist Baptist Church, Bunnell, Idlewood Baptist Church, Tampa, First Baptist Church, Brandon (1938-1939), Northeast Baptist Church, Miami, First Baptist Church, Hialeah and Parkway Baptist Church, Miami. Tomlinson and his wife Alice Lucille Billips Tomlinson had three children

SAM TOMMIE
Sam Tommie (1901-1970) was the son of Dr. Tommie and Annie Jumper. He gained fame as an alligator hunter in the Everglades of Florida. In 1945, he met Oklahoma missionary Stanley Smith who requested him to act as a translator to the people on the Seminole Reservation. After hearing the missionary’s message, he was baptized and became the first ordained Seminole Baptist minister. He graduated from the Baptist Bible Institute, Lakeland and served as missionary and pastor to the Seminole people. Tommie and his wife, Mildred Tommie, had three sons and six daughters.

John W. Touchberry (1930-2010) was born in Padgett’s Creek, South Carolina, the son of Tillman John and Lillian Avarilla Barnett Touchberry. He graduated from Furman University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Touchberry served as pastor of Westside Baptist Chapel, Gainesville. He and his wife, Sheryl Dean Smoak Touchberry had two sons.

DON TOUCHTON
Don Touchton was a native of Largo, Florida. He graduated from Houston Baptist University and Luther Rice Seminary. Touchton was a former computer specialist who worked at Cape Kennedy on the Apollo Program. He served as pastor of Central Baptist Church, Brandon. In 1979, Touchton served as the second vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

WILLIAM TOUCHTON
William Touchton (1953-2000) was killed in a tragic automobile wreck on July 3, 2000. He and three church members were returning home from a golf outing in St. Marys, Georgia. Touchton was pastor of Wingate Road Baptist Church, and was the only one to die in the wreck. In nearly six years at Wingate, Touchton had been a catalyst for 80 people going into vocational ministry. He and his wife, Gail, had two daughters, Allison and Shanna. Touchton attended Florida Baptist Theological College. He had served seven years as youth minister at First Baptist Church in Argyle before going to Wingate as pastor.

Nevi Townsend (1930-2012) graduated from Jacksonville University and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Townsend served as pastor for more than 35 years, with 30 of those in Florida, including First Baptist Church, Lantana, Bethel Baptist Church, Tampa, and Parkview Baptist Church, Fort Pierce. He served as director of missions for the Indian River Baptist Association and church planting strategist with the Florida Baptist Convention. Townsend and his wife Doris had three sons. Townsend is a sixth generation Floridian serving as pastor, two of his sons, Gary and Terry, have followed his footsteps in the Gospel ministry.

TED TRAYLOR
Ted Traylor (1954- ) is a native of Pisgah, Alabama. He attended Northeast State Junior College, Samford University (B.A., 1977), and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div., 1981; D.Min., 1986). He was converted at age 12, and called to preach at age 17. He served as pastor in Alabama and Texas before going to Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola as pastor in 1990. Traylor served on the executive mission board of the Texas and Florida Baptist Conventions. He has preached widely on television and in convention conferences. He served as president of the Florida Baptist Convention in 1995-1996. He is married to Elizabeth Bennett Traylor, and they have two children, Rachel and Bennett.

Robert Lewis Tremaine, Jr. (1934-2012) was born in Trinidad to Robert Sr. and Lois. He graduated from Hardin Simmons University, Abilene, TX. Tremaine began his pastoral work at First Baptist Church in Red Springs, Texas. In 1962, he became pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Hobbs, New Mexico. In 1967, he was appointed a Southern Baptist Home Missionary and was sent to Worcester, MA where he led the first Southern Baptist congregation in New England until 1974. From there he moved to Florida, where he pastored First Baptist Church, Miami Beach and Palm Coast First Baptist Church. His last leadership role behind the pulpit was at First Baptist Church in Beverly Hills, CA from 1979 until his retirement in 1988. He and his wife Glenda Wages Tremaine had two children.

Henry Wise Tribble (1860-1912) was born in Caroline County, Virginia, the son of George and Angelina Tribble. He graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1888. Tribble pastored churches in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He served as president of Rawlings Institute for young women, Charlottesville, NC. In 1909, Tribble became president of Columbia College, Lake City and served until his death in 1912. He and his wife Estelle Carlton Rawlings Tribble had eight children.

James E. Trice served as superintendent of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home, Arcadia for 21 years. Trice served as pastor of Bay Haven Baptist Church, Sarasota, 1933-1935. Mrs. Trice served with her husband as matron of the Florida Baptist Children’s Home. Trice died suddenly on August 2, 1935.

MARTHA POPE TROTTER
Martha Pope Trotter (August 5, 1933-January 12, 1997) was a native of West Point, Mississippi, and the only child of Hal and Lillian Dean Davis Pope. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Aberdeen, Mississippi. Martha graduated in 1955 from from Mississippi University for Women, and received her master’s degree from Emory. She also attended William Carey College New Orleans campus and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. For 33 years Martha was married to Dr. Robert W. Trotter, pastor licensed psychologist and CPE supervisor. At the time of his death in July 1993 he was Director of Pastoral Care and Counseling at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. Martha and Robert had two children, Frank and Mary Dean. Martha served as chairman of the board of directors of the Florida Baptist Historical Society and is best known to Florida Baptists as the author of Faithful Servants. The Story of Florida Woman s Missionary Union 1894-1994.

Harry W. Tucker (October 27, 1895-January 5, 1961) was born and raised in Pomona Park. Tucker graduated from Atlanta Theological Seminary, GA and Moody Bible Institute, Chicago. He was ordained June 28, 1928. His first pastorate was in his home town. He also served as pastor of East Palatka, Lemon Heights in Palatka, Sanford, and Frostproof.

JOHN TUCKER
John Tucker (April 10, 1785- ) was the son of Andrew and Jemima Andres Tucker. He came to Florida before 1827 because records show his son Jesse H. Tucker was born November 27, 1827, in Alligator, Florida (now known as Lake City). Rev. Hayman, the first missionary to Manatee County was converted under the preaching of John Tucker, and was baptized July 7, 1844, by Tucker. Tucker preached in a circuit of 450 miles. He was the only ordained minister in the area. With the help of Daniel Edwards of Georgia, they constituted five churches, ordained five deacons, and baptized four people in three weeks time. He preached in 20 different settlements, and it took him 30 days to make the rounds. In 1848 he was pastor of Bethesda and Eden in Alachua Association which was in Benton County, Florida. John Tucker was one of the first 100 Baptist preachers to preach and serve in Florida.

John C. Tucker, Jr. (1920-2005) was born near Fitzgerald, Georgia. He attended Tampa Business College, Texas Wesleyan College (B.S.), and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (B.D.). Tucker served as pastor in Oklahoma, Florida, Nebraska, and Georgia. He served as pastor of Oak-Griner in Ocala (1957-1958), Jackson Heights, Tampa, First Baptist Church, Groveland, and Stanton Memorial, Miami. Tucker married Virginia Bacon of Tampa and they had two children; Martha and Jonette.

John Powell Tucker (February 8, 1889-1982) was born in Greenville, North Carolina. He was the son of James Henry Tucker and Mary Elizabeth Powell Tucker. Tucker had one sister, Wallace Burnette W. Tucker, who was born in 1891. James Henry Tucker was a prominent attorney. Tucker was converted in 1900 and baptized at First Baptist Church, Asheville, North Carolina. He attended Bingham Military School, Wake Forest University (B.A., 1911), Yale University, and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received the Doctor of Divinity degree from Wake Forest in 1932. Tucker married Susan Gray Renfro in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 8, 1916. They had four sons; John Jr., (1918), James (1923), George (1925), and Richard (1932). Tucker served as a pastor of the following First Baptist Churches. Springfield, Kentucky; Kershaw, South Carolina; Rock Hill, South Carolina; Selma, Alabama; Raleigh, North Carolina (10 years), and Orlando, Florida (1938-1956). Tucker served on various state and convention-wide committees. He served as a Trustee at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and served on the Annuity Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Joseph W. Tucker (1855-1942) was born in Pasco County, the son of Edward D. and Harriett (Gill) Tucker. He attended Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville 1893-1892. In his early ministry he “was engaged in home missionary work in various parts of the state.” He pastored Oakdale Baptist Church, (aka Lakeview; now First Baptist Church, Zephyrhills), Double Branch Baptist Church (now Wesley Chapel), First Baptist Church, Elfers, Eden Baptist Church, Brooksville, Key West Baptist Church, Knights Baptist Church, Plant City, Center Hill, LeCanto, Shady Grove Terra Ceia, and Clearwater Baptist Church (now Calvary). Additional pastorates include Coleman, Wildwood, Whitney, Sardis Churches in Alachua Association, Lacoochee, Sydney, Seffner, Richland, Zephyrhills and Kathleen. Tucker and his wife Martha “Mattie” Hancock Tucker had two daughters and one son.

Kenneth Lamar Tucker (1927-1980) was born in Pine Castle, Florida, the son of Roscoe Melvin and Evie Mabel Porter Tucker. He was ordained in 1948 by Tribly Baptist Church, Pasco County. Tucker served as pastor of Tribly Baptist Church, Pasco County, 1949-1950; Lake Carroll Baptist Church; Temple Crest Baptist Church; and North Rome Baptist Church, all in Tampa. Other Pasco County churches he pastored include Westside Baptist Church, Zephyrhills, 1963-1964; Clay Sink Baptist Church, Richloam, 1964-1965; Richland Baptist Church, Zephyrhills, 1969-1974; and Bethel Baptist Church, Growers Corner, 1974-1980. Henry E. Turlington, Sr. (1919-2002) and his wife, Helen, served as foreign missionaries from 1946 until their retirement. They served in China, Iran, India, West Germany, and the Philippines. He was a native of Gainesville. Prior to foreign mission service, he was pastor of First Baptist Church in Delray Beach. The Turlingtons had two daughters, Carol and Lynn, and two sons, Henry Jr. and John.

Horace Edgar Twine (August 13, 1929- ) was born in Chowan, North Carolina. He was the son of Oliver Clingmon Twine and Essie Wheeler Chappell Twine. He had two brothers; Louis (1916) and Ray (1918), and three sisters; Irene (1920), Clara (1923), and Lillian (1927). Twine finished high school at South Norfolk High School in South Norfolk, Virginia. He attended Old Dominion (A.A., 1948), University of Richmond (B.A., 1951), Southwestern Theological Seminary (M.Div., 1954), and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Th., 1955) (D.Min. 1973). Twine was converted at age 14, and baptized in August 1943, into the South Norfolk Baptist Church. He was also ordained at South Norfolk on August 12, 1951. Twine served as pastor of churches in Virginia and Maryland before serving as pastor of Riverside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. He also served nine years with the Stewardship Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.

WILLIAM TYLER
William Tyler served as pastor of Duval Station Baptist Church (1988-1993) and is now pastor of Cedar Bay Baptist Church (1993- ). Tyler was saved in 1979 and ordained as a minister of the gospel in 1987. He graduated from Luther Rice Seminary in 2003. He and his wife, Robin, have three children; Michael, Ashley, and Megan.

ELBERT C. TYNER
Elbert C. Tyner (1910-2000) was born in Tampa, Florida, the son of John Ducan and Gertrude Anita Tyner. He attended Southern Seminary, Louisville, Southeastern Seminary, Wake Forest and Stetson University, DeLand. Tyner served as pastor of West Hillsborough Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Bushnell, 1935, and First Baptist Church, Dade City, 1942-1960. He and his wife Helen Beville Tyner had two children.

WILLIAM W. TYRE
William W. Tyre (1917-1999) was born in Lulu, Columbia County, the son of David L. and Ouida Anderson Tyre. He served as a Baptist preacher for 65 years. Tyre graduated from Baptist Bible Institute, 1948. He was a veteran of World War II. Tyre served as pastor at Lulu, Lake City, Lakeland, Plant City, Trilby, Day, McAlpin, Starke, Fellsmore, and Greenville. He and his wife Minnie Ola Blanton Tyre in 1939.
