Historical Markers

The Society seeks to permanently recognize specific geography locations within Florida that are historically significant to Florida Baptists. These locations are memorialized with a permanent high quality metal sign that contains a brief narrative explaining the significance of the location. Some of the marker locations include:
Arcadia, Florida – Recognizes the site where the Florida Baptist Orphanage was established in 1904 and continued to operate until 1948 when the facilities were re-located to Lakeland and renamed as the Florida Baptist Children’s Home.

Monticello, Florida – Olive Baptist Church, in 1853, hosted the annual meeting of the Florida Baptist Association, at which a recommendation was adopted to establish the Florida Baptist State Convention the following year.

Palatka, Florida – Bostwick Baptist Church, in 1937, served as the host location for a young evangelist, named Billy Graham, who preached his very first formal sermon before a congregation.
