Convention Press Book Collection

Revised May 10, 2010

Since its establishment in 1891 the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention has produced a variety of information, training and spiritual development books and booklets for use by local church staff and volunteer workers. Up until 1934 the Baptist Sunday School Board (SSB) published all its books under its name. Between 1934 and 1954, Sunday School and Training Union study course books were published under the Broadman Press (BP) banner. In 1955 the Sunday School Board adopted “Convention Press” as the official imprint for all training and spiritual development books designed primarily for Southern Baptist readers. The Broadman Press imprint was designated for use on general books published for the broader readers’ market.

The Florida Baptist Historical Society is developing a collection of these resource books, with a specific emphasis upon those publications produced under the Convention Press imprint. This growing collection contains over 350 titles that are noted in the following listing. Although this list is comprised primarily of Convention Press publications, other Sunday School Board books are noted by the identification of either (SSB) or (BP) following the resource title. Other imprints included are SBC (Southern Baptist Convention) and BWA (Baptist World Alliance).

If you have any unused Convention Press, SSB or BP imprinted books, to donate to this collection, those may be sent to the Secretary-Treasurer, Florida Baptist Historical Society, 5400 College Drive, Graceville, Florida 32440. Although book titles not yet listed are desired, duplicates of the following titles can be utilized and would be appreciated.
